Oftentimes I am asked by colleagues and even dear readers, ‘Why the fascination with global finance?” It’s an interesting and accurate observation, for after all, more than a fair share of my articles do in fact relate to markets, forecasting, complexity, mania, and even a touch of mathematics.
For me, the answer to ‘why global finance’ is quite simple.
How can one claim to understand marketing if one cannot appreciate the beauty, behavior, energy, intricacy and cycles of actual markets? How can one understand consumers if one cannot contemplate human psychology – why people act like they do, why they buy, and what they need the most? How can one gain a deep competency in marketing if one cannot appreciate the madness of the crowds, boom and bust cycles, behind the curtains formulae and the technology that makes the speed of markets possible?
